Carburizing granulate KG 6 & KG 30
KG 6 and KG 30 carburizing granulate is used for carburizing workpieces. During the process, the steels are enriched with carbon in their surface layer. The carburizing granulate thus represents the first phase of case hardening. The penetration depth into the surface layer is approx. 0.2 – 2 mm and depends on the holding time. The carburizing granulate is placed in closed boxes with the workpieces to be carburized and then held at a temperature of around 930° C for a predefined time. The granulate has a grain size of 4 – 8 mm and can be used several times. However, it should always be enriched with approx. 20% new material.
Overview of product features
-
At approx. 900 °C, the soft steel skin bonds with the carbon to form a layer approx. 0.2 – 2 mm thick
The workpieces are placed in a box with the carburizing granulate, the lid is sealed with insulating material or sand -
The thickness of the carburized layer depends on the holding time at 900 °C. The rule of thumb is approx. 0.1 mm per hour of holding time. Good average results are achieved with a holding time of approx. 6 – 8 hours
-
Can be used in any oven
-
Granulate for repeated use:
– KG 30 for unalloyed steel
– KG 6 for alloyed steel
