ASL fast-firing furnaces – chamber furnaces for heat treatment up to 1300 or 1400 °C

The ASL series fast-firing furnaces are suitable for heat treatment in laboratories and industrial production. Typical applications include annealing steel and sintering suitable materials in an air atmosphere. Every furnace size is available in two temperature versions: ASL up to a maximum of 1300 °C and ASL H up to a maximum of 1400 °C.

Heating from five sides using elements on support tubes helps distribute heat evenly, including at high temperatures. Multilayer insulation reduces heat loss, while the ventilated steel and stainless steel construction protects against corrosion and helps lower the external surface temperature. The furnace is loaded through a manually operated hinged door. A SiC roof plate protects the batch from falling insulating firebrick dust.

Technical features of the ASL series

  • Maximum temperature: 1300 °C for ASL, 1400 °C for ASL H
  • Heating: electric heating from five sides using heating coils on support tubes
  • High-temperature version: APM heating coils on Alsint support tubes for ASL H
  • Thermal insulation: five-layer insulation to reduce heat loss
  • Casing: robust steel frame with stainless steel panels and ventilation behind the panels
  • Furnace chamber: reduction-resistant insulating firebrick lining and durable bricks in the door area
  • Roof and base: SiC roof plate to protect the batch and SiC base plate to protect the base heating elements
  • Door: manually operated hinged door with a flexible seal to protect the refractory lining
  • Safety: positive-opening door safety switch
  • Solid-state relays: silent, low-wear switching without mechanical switching contacts; supplied as standard
Available models

Equipment and options

Additional equipment is available depending on furnace size and process requirements:

  • Parallel-opening swing door with a heat shield or manually operated lifting door
  • Manually or automatically controlled exhaust damper and controlled air inlet damper
  • Cooling fan with manual or automatic control
  • Temperature limiter and multi-zone control
  • Semi-gas-tight configuration with a protective gas connection
  • Inspection hole, levelling feet or castors

The appropriate equipment depends on your material, the temperature profile, and the requirements for loading, exhaust air management and process monitoring.

Controllers for ASL fast-firing furnaces

The TC 5050 (also known as TC 505) is supplied as standard. The optional TC 707 offers greater flexibility for programming and process documentation.

TC 5050 – standard

  • Programming: 29 freely programmable programs with two heating ramps, holding times and a controlled cooling ramp
  • Features: LED display, fault detection and keypad lock; optional PC connection

TC 707 – optional

  • Programming: up to 99 programs with individual names and up to 99 segments consisting of a heating ramp and a holding time; adjustable cooling ramp and scheduled start using the real-time clock
  • Operation: high-contrast 4.5-inch LCD with a clear display of process values and intuitive dial operation
  • Documentation: process data logging in CSV format to a USB stick, an event log for fault diagnosis, and USB and Bluetooth interfaces
  • SuperWise connectivity: process monitoring and program entry via PC or smartphone, graphical analysis of temperature profiles and receipt of warning notifications

Applications for ASL fast-firing furnaces

The ASL series is suitable for laboratory work, materials development and industrial heat treatment. Depending on the material and the selected furnace configuration, typical applications include:

  • Annealing steel components and tools
  • Sintering suitable ceramic or metallic materials
  • Heat treatment trials in research, development and quality assurance
  • Burnout and ashing processes, subject to assessment of the material, exhaust air management and furnace equipment

ASL or ASL H – choosing the right temperature version

Your required process temperature determines the appropriate version. ASL furnaces are designed for a maximum temperature of 1300 °C. The ASL H version with APM heating coils on Alsint support tubes is available for temperatures up to a maximum of 1400 °C.

Example, size 30: ASL 30 and ASL 30 H each have a chamber volume of approximately 33 litres and internal dimensions of approximately 320 × 320 × 320 mm. The ASL 30 has a heating power of 8 kW, while the ASL 30 H has 10 kW. External dimensions and weight also differ.

The maximum temperature alone does not determine suitability for your process. The material, batch, holding time and required atmosphere must also be considered. Protective gas operation requires suitable equipment.

Please specify your material, the required process, the target temperature, and the dimensions and weight of the batch. Please also include the number of parts, holding time and required cycle time.

What is a fast-firing furnace?

A fast-firing furnace is an electrically heated chamber furnace for temperature-controlled heat treatment. Workpieces are placed in the furnace chamber and heated according to a specified temperature program. This is followed by the holding and cooling phases required by the process.

In the ASL series, heating from five sides and multilayer insulation support controlled heating of the batch. The achievable heating time depends on furnace size, heating power, loading and process conditions.
