XRS and XTS Drawer Chamber Furnaces – easy loading, uniform heating

The electrically heated XRS and XTS drawer chamber furnaces combine accessible loading with heating from five sides. The furnace floor runs on ball bearings and can be pulled out for loading from three sides. This makes it easier to place and align workpieces and supports ergonomic working practices. Typical applications include firing and sintering ceramics, as well as annealing steel in air.

In XRS furnaces, the heating coils are positioned in grooved bricks; in XTS furnaces, they are mounted on support tubes. The standard version reaches a maximum temperature of 1320 °C; versions rated for 1350 or 1400 °C are available for higher temperatures. The stainless steel housing and multilayer insulation with NewGen ESP support a robust, energy-efficient furnace design. A SiC roof plate protects the load from falling particles, while the SiC floor plate protects the floor heating elements.

Technical Features of the XRS and XTS Series

  • Maximum temperature: 1320 °C as standard; 1350 or 1400 °C optional
  • Loading: pull-out furnace floor on ball bearings, accessible from three sides
  • Heating: five-sided; heating coils in grooved bricks in XRS furnaces and on support tubes in XTS furnaces
  • Thermal insulation: multilayer insulation with NewGen ESP and ceramic foam bricks with low heat storage capacity
  • Housing: stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance
  • Furnace chamber: insulating firebricks, with particularly durable bricks in areas subject to mechanical stress
  • Roof and floor: SiC roof plate to protect the load and SiC floor plate to protect the heating elements
  • Door: manually operated hinged door with adjustable hinges, an opening angle of approximately 180° and a flexible seal
  • Furnace floor seal: insulating cord to prevent draughts when the floor is pushed in
  • Airflow: sliding air inlet in the floor with a collection tray and a side-mounted bypass exhaust connection

  • Features: LED display, fault detection and keypad lock; optional PC connection

TC 707 – Optional

  • Programming: up to 99 individually named programs and up to 99 segments, each comprising a heating ramp and a hold period; adjustable cooling ramp and scheduled start using the real-time clock
  • Operation: high-contrast 4.5″ LCD with a clear display of process values and intuitive dial operation
  • Documentation: process data logging in CSV format on a USB stick, event memory for fault diagnosis, and USB and Bluetooth interfaces
  • SuperWise connectivity: process monitoring and program entry via PC or smartphone, graphical analysis of temperature profiles and receipt of warning notifications

Applications of Drawer Chamber Furnaces

XRS and XTS furnaces are suitable for ceramic processing, laboratory applications and industrial heat treatment. The pull-out floor makes it particularly easy to load multiple workpieces and position the load precisely. Depending on the material and selected furnace version, typical applications include:

  • Firing and sintering suitable ceramic workpieces
  • Annealing steel components and tools
  • Heat treatment trials in laboratories, development and quality assurance

XRS or XTS – Choosing the Right Version

Both series feature a drawer mechanism and five-sided heating. They differ in the arrangement of their heating elements: XRS uses grooved bricks, while XTS uses support tubes. The appropriate furnace size and version depend on the material, the dimensions and weight of the load, and the required temperature profile.

The XTS datasheet specifies continuous operating temperatures up to 1300 °C and a maximum temperature of 1320 °C. Processes requiring higher temperatures need a suitably specified high-temperature version. The permissible continuous operating temperature is agreed separately for that version.

Example: the XTS 270 has a chamber volume of approximately 267 litres, internal dimensions of approximately 520 × 660 × 780 mm and a heating power of 18 kW. The model overview provides the dimensions, electrical connection specifications and weights of the other sizes.

What Is a Drawer Chamber Furnace?

A drawer chamber furnace is an electrically heated front-loading furnace with a pull-out floor. The load is placed on the floor outside the furnace chamber and then pushed into the furnace together with the floor. This keeps the workpieces easily accessible during loading.

A programmable controller manages the heating, holding and cooling phases. Five-sided heating supports heat distribution throughout the furnace chamber. The treatment result also depends on the material, loading arrangement and selected process conditions.
